About St Gervais
Saint Gervais les Bains is a small, thriving market town, which has been a popular tourist destination since the early 1900s. It boasts the ownership of Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc, and a stunning gorge location. The name derives from its Thermal Baths, and it is the only spa resort in the Alps. The 19th Century architecture gives the town an antique-chic feel, quite original in a ski resort. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming with numerous boutiques, small bars and restaurants to discover.
Saint Gervais les Bains is in the heart of the Evasion Mont-Blanc Ski Domain. With 445km of runs, it is the third largest in France. The scenery is stunning, sheltered by the mighty Mont Blanc.
St Gervais is at the heart of the 6 stations which make up the Evasion Mont Blanc Ski Domain. Super Chic Megeve is the closest and most widely known. It has been a destination for the ‘jet set’ since Baroness de Rothschild created a French rival to St Moritz at the being of the twentieth century. Some of the mountain restaurants here are the best in the world, others offer delicious fare at more affordable prices. St Nicolas de Veroce has barely changed over the past 100 years, with surely the most beautiful baroque church in the alps. Combloux and La Giettaz are to the west. The final station, Les Contamines-Montjoie is so snow sure it is often open when even the near by, high altitudes resorts of Flaine and Chamonix are closed. Not to be missed is a journey on the Mont Blanc Tramway, which leaves from St Gervais and travels almost half way to the summit, with spectacular views. From there you can ski in Les Houches, and down the World Cup Kandahar run, returning by tramway in the evening. The famous Vallee Blanche is also easy to access from St Gervais as Chamonix is less than 30 minutes by road. A 50 minute journey through the Mont Blanc tunnel and you can be skiing in Courmayeur, Italy. One of the many strengths of St Gervais is its unrivalled position within easy driving distance of many other resorts, some well know and some ‘undiscovered gems.’
