Just a short distance from Le Chable, our modern, detached chalet was completely refurbished to our own high specifications in 2008, and now offers stylish yet practical accommodation with great access to both Verbier itself and some amazing lesser-known ski areas.

Refreshingly light, airy and contemporary, Etiez sleeps 12 guests in six comfortable bedrooms, three of which are en-suite. The chalet features a large family dining room as well as a spacious living room complete with open fire and entertainment facilities. Outside, there's private parking for up to four cars together with a huge private garden providing breathtaking views down the Val Ferret valley towards Italy. On a practical note, Etiez has a ski and boot room as well as a laundry and drying room.

In contrast to the hustle and bustle of Verbier, at 800m Etiez is a sleepy yet charming Swiss village almost untouched by tourism. The village has a small supermarket and a couple of traditional bars and restaurants but, more importantly, its location gives access to some of the region's finest off-the-beaten-track skiing and snowboarding. Using the St Bernard Express train that stops just yards from the chalet, guests enjoy unrivalled access to Verbier, Bruson and other pistes and backcountry areas covered by their Four Valleys lift pass. Areas within a 30-minute car drive include Grand St Bernard, Vicheres, Ovronnaz and Marecottes, while Crans Montana, Aosta and Chamonix are less than an hour away.

For those who prefer to hit the slopes or facilities of Verbier itself, a very short and train ride connects with the high-speed gondola at Le Chable, taking skiers and boarders directly to the Ruinette area at 2200m and conveniently avoiding possible lift queues in the Verbier resort. Le Chable's gondola runs throughout the day, giving plenty of time for a little après ski in the lively bars and restaurants of Verbier, before descending to the low-key tranquillity of the valley.

Breakfasts are big, healthy and varied, with fresh fruits, breads and croissants as well as cereals, juices, tea and decent coffee. Our packed lunches are prepared each morning and include man-sized sandwiches, snacks and more fresh fruit. For an instant post-ride hit, afternoon tea comes with a home-made cake baked that same morning while you were busy kitting up. And finally, our delicious and hearty evening meals are prepared and cooked while you're out on the trail, and are always served with complimentary wine.

If you're a vegetarian, just let us know on the booking form and we'll prepare separate dishes for you each evening. On our day off we'll leave you to fend for yourself, but you can eat at one of the cosy local restaurants in Etiez or Le Chable, or choose from plenty more up in Verbier itself.

Whatever we're doing we like to do it properly, and accommodation is no exception. In 2009 we moved into a purpose-designed and tastefully presented modern chalet in the small village of Etiez - close enough for pedalling to Verbier's popular lift system, while ideally placed for access to the lesser-known ranges nearby. Standards are as high as ever, with clean and comfortable en-suite bedrooms, group dining and a spacious living room equipped with music and DVDs - perfect for unwinding. As well as a full-scale workshop complete with its very own snug bar, the new chalet also features secure bike storage, a laundry and drying facilities, and a charming private garden offering superb views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

Etiez itself offers a couple of traditional bars and restaurants, a supermarket, and a direct rail link to Le Chable, as well as providing quick and easy road access to the special riding areas reached with our minibus and bike trailer.

About Verbier

We'll be straight with you - we want you to enjoy your stay at with us here at Bike Verbier, so when it comes to the kind of riding you'll be doing, it's only fair we put our cards on the table and let you know what to expect.

The riding here is epic. We don't like labels and pigeonholes, so let's just say these are big mountains with remote and often challenging trails. Over the years we've scoped and ridden dozens of routes that take us well beyond the legendary Verbier bowl - sometimes crossing into Italy and France, but always delivering the kind of unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime riding you've read about in the magazines or watched on the DVDs. From high alpine passes and backcountry hike-a-bikes through to fast-flowing traverses, jaw-dropping plummets and endless technical singletrack, the rewards are there for those prepared to make the effort.

Just 90 minutes from Geneva, the Verbier region doesn’t get the attention of certain Alpine resorts we could mention – and that suits us fine. Although this stunning location boasts some of the world's finest scenery and most breathtaking riding, nine times out of ten you'll have the trails all to yourself.

As well as biking, visitors to the area enjoy a vast range of activities and adventure sports including rock climbing, paragliding, hiking, canyoning and horse riding. Nearby towns and villages play host to various exhibitions, performances and events, while Verbier itself offers all the fun and games you'd expect from a world-class resort, with bars, nightclubs, restaurants, leisure & beauty facilities and, of course, a huge selection of shops and boutiques.

Activities near Verbier

It could be its excellent snow record, varied terrain and the fact that it enjoys one of Europe's longest seasons, or perhaps it's the resort's famously friendly atmosphere, breathtaking setting and picture-postcard architecture. Whatever it is that makes it so unique, Verbier's a resort people love coming back to year after year.

Located just two hours from Geneva on a sun-soaked plateau in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Verbier offers spectacular panoramic views encompassing the Grand and Petit Combins, the Dents du Midi and the legendary Mont Blanc Massif. The town itself was developed in harmony with its beautiful setting and in keeping with the alpine traditions of the surrounding region. Strict local planning laws ensure Verbier's chalets and buildings respect traditional design styles and make great use of natural materials like stone and timber. The end result is a uniquely picturesque resort oozing charm and character.
The Verbier ski area is vast, and includes 400km of varied and well-maintained pistes as well as a modern lift system comprising 100 lifts, the highest of which reaches the dizzy altitude of Mont Fort at 3330m. While nursery slopes and ski schools cater for absolute beginners and novices, more experienced skiers and boarders can choose from dozens of clearly-marked graded runs and a staggering selection of challenging off-piste terrain. There are two 10km toboggan runs which anyone can enjoy and for the real thrill-seekers and adventure junkies, professional guides and heli-skiing tours deliver serious backcountry action.

Those of you who don't ski or snowboard, or who just need a break from the slopes, don't despair – Verbier enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a lively resort packed with distractions. As well as a tantalising range of bars and restaurants, the resort offers scores of independent shops and boutiques as well as a superb public leisure centre complete with ice rink, squash courts, swimming pool, jacuzzi, solarium and sauna. There's also a central cinema and a number of museums and galleries in Verbier and its surrounding area. For more information, please check the tourist information centre.
