About Morillon
Morillon Les Esserts is small friendly community, offering cozy restaurants, bars, shops and a small play area. There is an excellent Ski School with friendly English speaking instructors offering group or private lessons, a ski garden and an creche taking little ones from 6 months. For children over 3 years it offers a chance to experience skiing for the very first time in a secure enclosed area with ESF instructors. (ski hire is discounted if staying in the apartment).
Nestled in the valley below is charming Morillon Village. It is connected to Les Esserts by a small cable car (a 5 minute journey). The adjacent medieval villages of Verchaix, Samoens and Sixt in the scenic Giffre valley offer markets, quaint restaurants and bars and a variety of shops including a large supermarket.
Summer in Morillon offers the opportunity to relax, unwind and take in some spectacular scenery. Situated deep in the beautiful Giffre Valley it provides the perfect base for you to explore this amazing area and the endless activities on offer for all age groups and abilities.
The local villages offer wonderful restaurants and markets and the surrounding area offers an array of beautiful towns to visit. Mont Blanc and Chamonix are only 45 minutes away.
Activities near Morillon
There are many other winter activities to experience in the area including cross-country skiing, snow shoe trekking, paragliding, hot air ballooning, ice skating, sledging, winter archery, dog sledding, ice climbing, ice diving or for those who are looking for a more peaceful holiday fabulous heritage or guided walks.
Non-skiers can obtain cable car passes allowing them to admire the panorama of the mountains or go to the altitude restaurants. There is also a free shuttle bus operating during cable car hours between Verchaix, Morillon, Samoans and Sixt Fer a Cheval. Timetables are at the bus stops, available in the chalet or tourist office. In addition there are weekly torchlight descents, concerts, wine and food tastings, and a variety of activities for children.
In the summer months the River Giffre provides some of the best white water rafting and canoeing in the French Alps. With its many gorges it is also ideal for canyoning, offering natural waterfall slides and excellent abseiling opportunities. Children over the age of 8 are able to participate in all these activities. There are several local professional companies that specialize in these water sports.
There are 2 large recreational parks on the road into Samoens with lakes, and tree adventure areas.
Cycling - Bike hire is widely available there are 900km of walking/cycling tracks in the area, offering a variety of terrain.
Mountain Biking - With over 600 km of mountain bike tracks ranging from easy to very challenging, the area is perfect for all levels of mountain biking. The Grand Massif has four lifts open in July and August and 69 marked rails. Nearby Morzine has a Mecca for serious mountain bike enthusiasts.
Via Ferrata - a cross between walking and climbing and can be enjoyed safely by all ages. The routes above the beautiful village of Sixt are equipped with cables, ropes and ladders to ease you round this exciting cliff-face.
Parapenting (Paragliding) - Flights are available throughout the year accompanied by a qualified instructor. And almost anyone can do it, age 5 to 85!
Golf - There are many 9 and 18 hole golf courses within easy reach of Samoens, including a spectacular mountain course at Les Gets at an altitude of 1900m.
Other activities - Potholing - One of the world's deepest potholes, the Gouffre Jean Bernard, is nearby.Fishing, Archery, Jet Skiing, Tennis, Water Skiing, Hot Air Ballooning, Hang-Gliding, Scenic Helicopter Rides.
