About the Ski Resort
Alpe d’Huez is set high in the Grande Rousses mountains at 1860m altitude in the middle of a sunny bowl and directly across from Les Deux Alpes ski resort. The ski resort enjoys amazing views of the surrounding valley offer superb skiing for all abilities. Although once a traditional mountain village much of Alpe d’Huez is modern and purpose built to offer the perfect skiing experience. From the center of the resort ski lifts stretch out as far as the eye can see offering a mount watering range of ski runs and off piste. Europe’s longest black run, La Sarenne, starts at the Pic Blanc and runs for 16kms in Alpe d’Huez. The resort offer a huge selection of facilities for both skiers and non-skiers with top quality nightlife, restaurants and après ski.
If you don’t fancy La Sarenne then don’t worry because with over 250km of pistes Alpe d’Huez has plenty to offer from wide open beginner runs to more challenging blues and reds. The ski area is the fifth largest in France and links the villages of Oz en Oisans, Vaujany, Villard Reculas and Auris en Oisans. The lift system is modern and provides quick access between all the villages in the Alpe d’Huez domain.
Plenty of gentle and wide green runs can be found very close to the center of Alpe d’Huez. These are prefect for beginners and unlike many ski resorts almost all the beginner runs can be accessed by chair lifts rather than drag lifts. Intermediate skiers and snowboarders will really enjoy the runs down into Oz, Vaujany and Auris where there are plenty of challenging red runs. For the experts and extreme skiers La Saranne and the Tunnel are a must where you can find plenty of off piste and mogul fields.

Summer in Alpe d'Huez
In summer Alpe d'Huez is a good base from which to explore the surrounding area. The town remains active and lively in the summer and activities include walking, mountain biking, via ferrata (metal climbing routes in the mountains), road cycling, white water rafting, kayaking and paragliding.
As one of the sunniest ski resorts in France, Alpe d'Huez is also perfect for a summer holiday. The main summer events are mountain biking, road cycling (the resort if a regular stage on the Tour de France), walking, hiking, golf, fishing and white water rafting. The is an extensive network of walking trails in the Ecrins national park or if you feel up to a challenge then why not hire a bike and try the 14km climb into Alpe d’Huez which boasts over 20 bends and hair pin turns. You will even get a certificate from the tourist office if you finish the route. For a more leisurely time there are several outdoor swimming pools and leisure centers.
