Car is essential
Samoens, nestles at the foot of the Criou mountain amidst wonderful forests. It is the only Apline village to be listed as “historique”. You will find many traditional bars and restaurants which give the village an authentic rural “feel”. Whilst beginning to increasingly cater for the party animals, it is still an ideal family resort and attracts a variety of tourists, French , English, Dutch in particular.

In the winter, the skiing is fantastic, including downhill and cross-country. With dog, sledging, ice skating, snow shoeing and much more there is something for everyone in Samoens and the surrounding area.
If you have never been to the mountains in the summer you will not be disappointed. Some would say that with blue skies, sunshine, stunning scenery, plenty to do and time to relax, a holiday in the mountains beats the sea any time. Between May and September, temperatures average between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.
The area is increasingly becoming known as a mountain biking area and Samoens opened a selection of lifts in 2009 for mountain bike trails. In addition nearby Morzine is only about 25 minutes away over the top of the Col de Joux Plan. There mountain bikers will find 39 lifts open with more than enough trails to keep them happy.
Alternatively, the walking is fantastic with a myriad of marked trails criss-crossing the valley. If walking is your thing, there are plenty of trials passing refuges where you can stay overnight. Booking is recommended.
You can also enjoy horse riding, canoeing, canyoning, rock climbing, paragliding, swimming, fishing, white water rafting, via ferrata. The leisure area in the village offers climbing walls, tennis courts, golf driving range, lakes, adventure parks, archery, football, playground and much more.
