The Route De L'Abbaye is a quiet road with a mixture of local French residents and foreign/second-home-owned properties. St Jean D'Aulps has the feel of a 'real' village, as opposed to a purpose built resort - the buzz of a modern resort is just 5 minute drive up the road at La Grande Terche (Roc d'Enfer) or in Morzine. There is a very good Petit Carrefour mini-supermarket, pattisserie, boulangerie chacuterie in the village (10 minutes walk), as well as restaurants, cafe/ English bar and other shops. There is a big Carrefour supermarket (supplying all the local area) half-way to Morzine (5 minutes by car).
The highest slopes of Avoriaz can be easily accessed by the Ardent bubble lift above Montriond lake (10mins drive).

Bedroom 1: 2 single beds, 1 large double bed, and ensuite bathroom

The Meadow Room.
This is the bedroom off the sitting room. It has a view up to the closeby hillside with scattered chalets and pastures. The bed can be made up as either a large double or as two twin singles. It has an en-suite walk-in shower.

Bedroom 2: 2 single beds, 1 large double bed, and ensuite bathroom

The River Room.
This is one of the two bedrooms upstairs with views across to the local Roc d'Enfer ski slopes. The bed can be made up as either a large double or as two twin singles. It has an en-suite shower room.

Bedroom 3: 3 single beds and 1 large double bed

The Family Room (Narnia).
This is the large family room. It has views up to the closeby hillside with scattered chalets and pastures. The beds can be made up as either a large double or as two twin singles. There is also a mezzanine with has a small single. In addition to this there is a cot-bed suitable for babies and enfants up to 2 years of age.
The bedroom is across the landing from the family bathroom (bath with shower overhead).

Winter: Skiing and snowboarding. The Portes du Soleil, with 200 lifts in total, ranks as the second largest ski areas in the world. Within the Portes du Soleil, the Morzine/Avoriaz area has the largest complex of ski-lifts - in two weeks you need never repeat yourself. Le Roc d'Enfer is not linked to the rest of PdS so is often quieter, great for beginners or those looking for off piste or a short, cheaper break.

Summer: The Morzine complex is the largest mountain-biking area in the Alps. Lifts open for bikes from the mid/end of June. One of the hardest via-ferrata climbing routes in France, at "The Elephant", is just 10 minutes' walk along the road past the ruined Abbey (there are easy routes too, of course). Chatel's high-speed zip wire covers over three kilometres, in two stages. There are also lots of beautiful hiking routes (information on alpine flowers can be provided); rafting; paint-balling; climbing; paragliding; kayaking (on the lake at Montriond, 10 minutes away); sailing (at Thonon-les-Bains, on Lake Geneva [Lac Leman], 20 minutes away); canyoning and other outdoor activities.
