About Obertauern

Our Chalet Gove is in the village of Lessach, 30 minutes drive from the commercial ski area of Obertauern and approximately 20 minutes drive from three wonderful, un-crowded local ski areas. In winter our location provides our guests with the luxury of choosing on a daily basis the best ski areas to visit dependent on the weather and conditions, which can vary quite considerably due to the different positioning of each area.

0ur village of Lessach is in the sparsely populated Lungau region, which is a deeply rooted living environment with distinctive traditions and a high level of biodiversity and has proudly been recognized as an UNESCO's Biosphere Reserve since July 2012. The word “biosphere” denotes a region of exceptional value in terms of the people, the environment, the local economy as well as deeply rooted traditions and folk customs. For holiday makers, this means a truly authentic experience, in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in all Salzburgerland.

The Lungau consists of 15 picturesque towns and villages. The main town of Tamsweg has a beautiful square surrounded with bars and restaurants where in summer you can sit and while away your afternoon or evening, often accompanied by traditional Austrian musical entertainment. Fanning out from Tamsweg are ten different valleys and mountain ranges providing a wealth of variety both in scenery and activities. It’s impossible to cover all there is to do in a month, let alone a week, and this is why so many of our guests return year after year, each time discovering another new and magical place or favourite view.

The Lungau region is one of the most southerly in Austria and in summer enjoys quite a Mediterranean feel. Something to be aware of is that being in the mountains the weather can be quite varied. The day can start in beautiful sunshine and end in a heavy shower. The beauty of the place is its fresh clear air and even if hot during the day, the nights are usually cool making for a good night’s sleep. Humidity here is low, which also helps it feel cooler.

In winter, the Lungau benefits from two different weather systems, if the snow comes from the South through Italy our southern ski areas receive snow and if it comes from the North West our northern ski areas receive the snow. In other words, if there is snow around, we usually get some.

Activities near Obertauern

In winter as well as the skiing and boarding, we have sledging, horse drawn carriage rides, horse riding in the snow, castles to visit, swimming pools and spas.

In summer, as well as the numerous lovely walks there are many other activities and events you can enjoy, for example we have excellent swimming facilities, spas and wellness centre, cycling, horse riding, castles and museums to visit. All of the activities are free or discounted with your Lungau card. Most weeks you will also have the opportunity of joining in or observing one of the unique traditional events of the region, these events are not ‘put on’ for tourists, they take place for the locals but anyone is welcome to join in; more often than not, they involve music, food and beer.

All Winter rate prices are per person for one week based on two people sharing a room. The price includes airport transfer from and to Salzburg airport as well as transport whilst you are staying at Chalet Gove, Breakfast and afternoon cake each day and 3 course evening meal with wine on 6 nights, plus our help to organise everything for you.
Discounted prices are available for children sharing in a room with two adults.

Our summer price does not include transport but is available for group bookings - please enquire. It does include breakfast and afternoon cake each day and 3 course evening meal with wine on 5 nights, plus our help to organise activities and the option to join a guided walk or bike ride. Covid-19 Terms

If, on the day before arrival, any of the circumstances outlined below apply to your booked dates, and this results in your booking being cancelled, then you will be entitled to either a 100% refund of your accommodation payments or a 100% credit note depending on the applicable circumstances.

Valid circumstances covered by these Covid-19 cancellation terms are limited to:

• official closure of the property due to Covid-19 restrictions - 100% refund applies in this case
• if the government of the country where the property is located, imposes a mandatory travel restriction preventing travel either to the country or to the property, or imposes a mandatory quarantine on arrival - 100% refund applies in this case
• if the government of your country of departure, imposes a mandatory travel restriction preventing travel either to the country or region where the property is located - 100% credit note applies in this case
• if the government of your country of departure, advises against all non essential travel to the country or region where the property is located - 100% credit note applies in this case

All other reasons will not be considered a valid reason to utilise the Covid-19 cancellation terms, and the standard cancellation terms will apply. These include, but are not limited to:

• an unwillingness to travel
• an inability to travel due to medical reasons (including any related to Covid-19)
• an inability to travel due to vaccination status
• individual or household stay-at-home orders

These Covid-19 cancellation terms are valid up to the day before arrival. After this date there will be no refund or credit note should Covid-19 have an impact upon your booking.

Your country of departure will be determined by the address used at the time of booking and this address will apply to all parties on the booking.

It is your responsibility to comply with all relevant health and/or vaccination requirements in the countries you are travelling to and from.

Where a credit note is issued this will be valid for 12 months and can be used against a future booking in the property. The arrival date of the future booking must be within 15 months from your original arrival date.
