Beginners
There is a dedicated beginners’ area close to the resort centre where beginners can gain confidence. Les Bergers area, in particular, offers excellent wide, easy, green runs. All these runs are close to the resort and offer a variety of challenges for beginners.

Intermediates
With an excellent array of moderately difficult runs, Alpe d’Huez has a great deal to offer the intermediate skier. Signal, at 2115m, has a number of enjoyable sunny pistes providing interesting, exhilarating skiing. On the southern side of the village, a chair-lift takes you across the gorge at the foot of Signal d’Homme and up to a height of 2176m, where there are long, south-west facing runs down to Oisans and Alpe d’Huez.

Advanced
Alp d’Huez provides many great challenges for the expert skier. On the south-facing Glacier de Sarenne, there are many notorious blacks, including the famous ‘Tunnel’ where the piste goes through a tunnel in the mountain and comes out onto a steep mogul slope. One of the longest black runs in the world also begins on the glacier and makes its way all the way back to the village.

Snowboarding
This huge area is excellent for snowboarding with a wide choice of on and off-piste terrain. Most of the slopes follow the fall-line which means that flat and traverse sections are minimal. There’s also a terrain park and half-pipe near the main lift base, as well as in Auris.

• individual or household stay-at-home orders
