In winter it is the perfect ski chalet and in the summer it is a great base for those who enjoy walking, climbing, mountain biking, parapenting and following the Tour de France. The chalet is set on a large plot with magnificent uninterrupted views of the mountains and the pistes. The chalet is managed by an English managing agent based in the area.

Chalet Accommodation Layout:

Ground Floor
- A large sitting room with an open plan kitchen/dining area.
- A large TV/family room or 5th bedroom with an en suite bathroom.
- Separate WC.
- A large integral garage, with a large shelving system for hanging/drying skis clothes and helmets etc. There is also a boot warmer for 5 pairs of boots.

First Floor
- 4 large bedrooms, one with an en suite bathroom.
- A shower room.
- Separate WC.
- Two of the bedrooms have king size beds, and two have been specially designed to accommodate between 3 and 4 children or adults.

A full size basement has the utility room (wish washing machine and dryer), a ping pong table, and sometime in the future, a games room (hopefully 2012) and plenty of storage space.

Outside:
There is plenty of off-street private parking, with room for up to three or four cars. In winter the snow is cleared from the drive on a regular basis, and after all heavy snow falls. The garage provides ideal storage for bikes in the summer and in the winter, skis, boards and boots. There is also a heated boot rack for 5 pairs of ski boots. The large covered terrace offers a lovely place to sit, read the paper and listen to the river, or watch the skiers on the pistes.

The garden is large and predominantly flat (approximately the size of half a tennis court). But it does fall away sharply down to the river “le Torrents du Chinaillon”. In the summer the river is the perfect place for children to cool down, and escape to a world of paddling and dam making! Please be aware the steep gradient down to the river could be hazardous for very young children

Entertainment- The spacious and beautiful living room has a traditional wood burning fire, and three very comfortable sofas, perfect for relaxing after a long days skiing. There are games, jigsaws (for all ages) and an extensive DVD collection covering all age groups. Both the sitting room and TV room have widescreen TV’s with surround sound systems, French TV stations and English free sat stations, DVD, CD players and iPod docking station. Most of the rooms in the chalet has been wired with CAT6 cables for wired access to the internet, the chalet also has wifi.

Kitchen and dining - The modern oak kitchen is very well equipped with new modern appliances - a four ring ceramic hob, large fan oven, microwave and dishwasher and coffee percolator. There's plenty of crockery, cutlery, pans, good kitchen knives and jugs for the Alpine water. You will find raclette and fondue sets for easy to prepare nights in. The large table extends from 2m to 3 meters in length and can easily seat 12 people or more.

Bedrooms - All the bedrooms have new and extremely comfortable beds, and the arrangement gives maximum flexibility for guests with or without children. All beds are supplied with "four seasons" duvets consisting of a summer and autumn weight duvet, which clip together to make an extremely warm duvet. Most people are happy with the autumn weight alone, but the choice is yours - just let us know.

Chalet Etoile is self catering. The local supermarket in Chinaillon, The Spar, is very good, and supplies nearly everything you need. They will prepare fondues or raclettes for you to cook at the chalet (for a fraction of the price of eating out). If you want a larger supermarket there is a large Intermarche on the main road towards Thones, just 15 minutes drive away.

About Le Grand Bornand

Le Grand Bornand is a charming and very traditional mountain village situated in the heart of the Aravis Mountain range in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps. Less than an hour’s drive from Geneva airport access to the area is very easy. It is perfectly located between Chamonix Mont Blanc and Lake Annecy, with access to the Megeve ski area being just 35 minutes away by car. Le Grand-Bornand offers the best of the Alps - the charm and soul of a traditional mountain village which has retained its strong farming traditions and character, and an impressive world class ski resort with extensive downhill and cross country skiing. Le Grand Bornand prides itself on the extensive facilities provided during both its winter and summer season.

The village is divided into two distinct areas. The village of Le Grand Bornand lies in the bottom of the valley at approximately 1000m with the splendid Bouchet valley as its backdrop. Chinaillon, which is sometimes referred to as the second floor of the resort, sits on a sunny plateau at approximately 1300m and is the ski station for Le Grand Bornand; it is the main starting point for most of the resort's downhill ski runs. The old village of Chinaillon dates from the 17th century and has been very well preserved (it is well worth spending half an hour walking through the old village).

Chalet Etoile is located in the ski resort of Le Grand Bornand, in the heart of the Aravis chain of mountains, less than an hour’s drive from Geneva airport. Le Grand Bornand is a well established modern ski resort with over 90 km of downhill ski runs and 31 lifts in the village. Cross country skiing is very popular in the area, (there are about 60km of varied and well kept runs in the Bouchet valley). Running through the forest, passing small hamlets and farms, these cross country routes connect to La Clusaz just 5 miles away. La Clusaz is another world class Aravis resort, with an extra 128 km of down hill ski runs and an additional 45 lifts - a combined Aravis lift pass allows you to make the most of the extensive skiing in the region. The village is divided into two distinct areas. The village of Le Grand Bornand lies in the bottom of the valley at approximately 1000m. Chinaillon, which is sometimes referred to as the second floor of the resort, sits on a sunny plateau at approximately 1300m. Most of the skiing starts in the village of Chinaillon where the chalet is situated.

Summer in Le Grand Bornand:

Summer in Chinaillon is breathtakingly beautiful! If you like being outdoors nothing can beat it. On the doorstep are the most serenely beautiful walks, exhilarating mountain bike trails. All around you is the blue sky and the mountain peaks and often nothing but the sound of cow bells (there are reportedly more cows than humans in the Grand Bornand valley, which is the main producer of Reblochon cheese and is also known as the capital of “Cow Art”). Le Grand Bornand is a regular stop on the Tour de France , with its extraordinarily gruelling ascent, and very fast descent from the Col de Colombiere which sits at a mere 1618 meters above sea level!! and then straight past the chalet! Le Grand Bornand is just 25 minutes away from Lake Annecy, reportedly the cleanest lake in Europe. It's very beautiful old town is described as the "Venice of the Alps" with its network of canals and beautiful old buildings.

The villages of Le Grand Bornand, Chinaillon, and La Clusaz , host a number of fantastic events during the summer including an International Hot Air Balloon Festival, the Fete d'Alpage (located opposite the chalet) this is the summer pastures fete which celebrates traditional mountain pastimes. La Clusaz hosts the annual Fete de Reblochon, a festival dedicated to lovers of the local dish "Tartiflete" - a combination of bacon, potatoes, cream and Reblochon cheese.
