About Chamonix

Chamonix's reputation as the off-piste capital is well founded, but there is much more to Chamonix than its off-piste skiing. With 5 major skiing areas, 4 dedicated to beginners and access to Courmayeur, Italy & Verbier, Switzerland on the UNLIMITED pass you will be hard pressed not to find the right terrain for your ability.

Le Tour:
Starting at the eastern end of the valley on the Swiss border Le Tour Col de Balme has a large open bowl facing west with excellent easy intermediate terrain; on the east and north faces you will find some excellent tree lined runs, a few steeper faces for the experts and some gentle off-piste. The perfect place for your first day back on skis or an introduction to the higher slopes.

These 2 linked areas - accessible from Chamonix centre and Les Praz - offer an excellent range of skiing covering all skier levels. The area is completely south facing offering unsurpassed views over the Mont Blanc massif and some great restaurants and picnic spots.

Les Grands Montets:
Accessed from Argentiere, the Grands Montets ski area needs no introduction to the experienced skier and boarder. It has long been known for its glaciated descents, steep bumps, undulating tree runs, powder and massive 2000+metres of vertical; a must for all dedicated skiers and boarders.

Les Houches:
A first-rate ski area with almost all runs tree lined giving great visibility in bad weather. An all round excellent family ski area.

Aiguille du Midi:
At 3842 metres the Aiguille du Midi cable car gives access to one of the highest lifted points in Europe, incredible views and of course the world famous Vallee Blanche. No matter which way down you choose to go, or your skiing level (minimum red run skier), you will be completely blown away by the fascinating beauty of this living glacier. The skiing here is on glaciated terrain and is not patrolled - a high mountain guide is strongly recommended.

Beginner areas:
There are 4 dedicated beginner areas all based in the valley floor offering great snow and terrain but protected from the high altitude weather and unencumbered by better skiers passing through at speed - La Vormaine in Le Tour, Chosalets in Argentiere, Savoy & Planards in Chamonix centre.
There is also a beginners area at the top of Les Houches.

Other Resorts:
The exploring doesn’t have to stop in Chamonix! Discover new ski areas in the 2 other countries that border Chamonix!

Courmayeur ,Italy:
Just on the other side of the Mont Blanc tunnel is the ski area of Courmayeur, a fantastic family style ski resort with great views and welcoming family run mountain restaurants. A great day out and only 12km from Chamonix centre.

Verbier, Switzerland:
Verbier dominates the 4 Valleys ski area and is a premium destination to spot the rich and famous. From long and lazy blues to challenging reds and interesting chair lifts, Verbier is a place to visit. But one thing is for sure Verbier has an excellent après ski environment!
