Les Coches is located at 1450 metres and is on the north facing slopes and, together with Montchavin (just below at 1250 metres) make up a self-contained but small ski domain referred to as Montchavin-Les Coches.

Montchavin and Les Coches are extremely accessible being only 10-15 minutes by car or bus to the Tarentaise Valley floor at Landry, where the main access road to the Three Valleys and Val d’Isère passes through alongside the railway which provides access via the Snow Train, the Eurostar Ski Train, TGV and Corail train services.

The ski area of Montchavin-Les Coches is also part of the La Plagne ski region which is easily reached by the Gondola or Chairlift which you will find immediately above us and within 50 to 100 metres on foot around the building opposite.

The area is also part of the largest combined ski area in Europe called Paradiski which combines the La Plagne region with the Les Arcs ski area by one of the largest cable cars in the world called “La Vanoise Express”. This is literally less than a kilometre away, but is easiest to get to by taking a lift up and skiing back down to it. To give you a rough idea of where it is…when you’re standing at the roadside outside Le Boulier, look up the mountain and left, you will see a drag lift just above the bend at the end of the road. Follow that line of sight and you may see the top of the cable car building in the distance.

Le Boulier is pretty well Ski-In/Ski-Out. Cross the road opposite the entrance and walk past the side of the building opposite, put on your skis and ski down the path under the road. Or you can walk to the end of the road (left) and your at the edge of the piste to Montchavin. Go over the road opposite and climb up to the right side of the building opposite and you can ski down to Les Coches centre, its lifts and the ESF ski-school.

What about the nearest beginners slopes? At the end of the road the drag lift serves a gentle starter slope or two and at the top of the Lac Noir Gondola opposite us there is a perfect area with kids ‘Magic Carpet’ and very, very gentle stuff ideal for first timers.

While you’re here, take a trip down to Montchavin which is a mountain farming village. The buildings are very old and full of character and many of the locals still keep their animals in shelters located and built under their homes or businesses.

To get down to Montchavin (and back up) you can use the free resort bus which stops by the télécabine and ice rink (opposite and just up from the apartment - about 75 metres away) and Les Coches Tourist Office (watch out for times back as the last one only goes to the tourist office). You can also use the gondola by the télécabine opposite to get down and back up but again watch the times as it stops reasonably early (although it runs much later than the other ski lifts).
